Update Regarding Maximum Ordinary Speed Limit

With effect from 1st February 2009, will increase the maximum Ordinary speed limit for single and double deck coaches on motorways and dual-carriageways to 100km/h - the maximum speed limit will be 80km/h on other roads. Those speed limits apply to the coach/bus vehicles that are not designed to carry any standing passengers.
 
The maximum speed limit for buses that are constructed to carry standing passengers is 65km/h e.g. the traditional urban double deck bus and single deck vehicles such as the bendy bus etc that have spaces intended for standing passengers.
 
The increase of the coach speed limit to a maximum of 100km/h on a motorway means that the motorway driving rule restriction (ban of use on the outside lane) will not apply after 1st February 09 when the new speed limit law comes into force.
 
If for reason of emergency a coach that is intended to be all seated is full and carries an extra passenger(s) then that bus cannot be driven at a speed in excess of 65km/h. This speed limit rule for buses that carry standing passengers has applied since
