" School Bus Signs & Lights" Regulations Timetable - as of September 2008
May - October 2008 DOE revise draft regulations in consultation with DSO
July - October 2008 Finalise draft RIA and other consultation documentation to align with draft regulations as signed off by DSO
November 2008 Obtain Ministerial approval to proceed
November 2008 Obtain Environment Committee approval to proceed
Nov - Feb 2009 Consult on draft regulations - Seek EU approval and respond to any queries raised (NB EU can request up to a further 3 months to consider regulations e.g. which are particularly complex or novel).
February 2009 Consider responses - Receive EU approval
March 2009 Obtain Executive Committee agreement to proceed to lay the regulations
May - June 2009 Notify all likely affected businesses of requirement re. new signs and lights
July 2009 Regulations come into effect
This revised timetable will, in turn, have repercussions for the date when use of the new signs and lights become compulsory. In the current draft of the regulations it is set at 01st September 2010. In light of the further slippage in making the regulations is is suggested that this will be revised to 01st January 2011.
First used date moves from 01st April 2009 to 01st February 2010.
